Wiggles Board Game

by Jodi Gallegos

The Wiggles Game is a board game based on the popular children's show. It is designed for children ages three and older.

There are four playing pieces, each designed to look like a member of the Wiggles. Each player (or team) selects a playing piece and places it on the start location.

The youngest player starts by drawing a Wiggles Activity Card from the deck. The cards contain various activities that the player must perform. The card may direct the player to count objects, identify colors or perform a physical activity. After performing the activity, the player moves their playing piece the number of spaces indicated on the card. Play continues until one player reaches the finish location.

This is a very easy game to learn. My three year-old had never played a board game before and was playing this one almost immediately. It is very child friendly, only one player (or a bystander) needs to be able to read. Counting (from 1-5) and color recognition are skills that can be developed through play. Even my 18 month-old enjoyed moving his piece while counting, one, two, one, two. The activities are fun and encourage imagination. One problem we had is that we don't watch The Wiggles. Some of the activity cards require some knowledge of the show. We did adapt and used our imaginations to perform as we thought a character might or to make up our own song lyrics.

The Wiggles Game is fun but seems to be over soon after we start it. That can be good news for Mom and Dad as we are now asked to play this game at least daily!
