Backgammon Travel Portfolio

by Sharon Mehl

Fundex Games LTD has taken Backgammon in a travel form to a whole new level of class. This classy leatherette zippered case comes complete with a hardwood pegboard and zippered compartment that contains the silver and gold playing pieces and die.

This classy case would be a welcomed gift for one who travels. It's a classic game that is easy to pick back up even if you haven't played in several years. The included instructions were easy to read and follow.

Something to note is that with a travel game, with drilled holes, you are limited by the number of pegs that can "fit" on a single row. You must then use a bit of strategy in advancing your pegs.

We were playing the game the first time in a low light setting and had troubles distinguishing between the gold and silver pieces. A suggestion for future improvement would be to laminate the instructions and have a way to slip them under the playing board or in a pocket. Our instructions were misplaced shortly after playing in a few different cities on our trip.

The zippered case is extremely nice looking and the zipper moves with ease. The inside zippered compartment has a window that allows you to see the contents. This small case would be easy to just slip into a briefcase, backpack, or possibly even a purse to have handy whenever you get the urge for a little competition.

Tips

Being that this is a travel game, there is not a flat surface to throw the die. We would recommend finding a table or a large book that the board can sit on and the die can be tossed.

Pros

The size, look, durability, and price makes the Backgammon Travel Portfolio a great gift for a friend, co-worker, or relative. At the price you could afford to have a few on hand for last-minute gifts.

Cons

I found on this particular board that the holes were not drilled evenly on every row.
