Beneath The Bridge

by Erin Mariasine

The story is about a little boy who made a paper boat and set it on an adventure downstream. No one knows where it's headed. However, there is a lot to see such as: frogs, insects, people swimming and fishing etc. It's a rough journey for this small boat down the busy stream. Thankfully, people do what they can to preserve it on the way. For example people in canoe, motor boat and a sight seeing ship all try to lend a hand. The story provides a great message for kids to see people doing what they can to salvage even the most simple of things. The little boy thinks that he would like to follow the journey, but for now it's only a dream.

I loved the story. Each verse is repetitive which children love as it helps them to read along. The text is also rhyming which makes it fun to read. The illustrations were bright, realistic looking and very calming. You feel as if you're actually on the journey.

Pros

A sweet story for any pre-reader. After reading the story to a bunch of three year olds, they wanted me to help them make paper boats. It then led to the question: where can we let it float? As you can see the story can lead to many fun activities.
