The Slippery Slope (A Series of Unfortunate Events, Book 10)
Through the dangers of the Mortmain Mountains, brother and sister Klaus and Violet Beaudelaire, venture on a quest to rescue their younger sister Sunny from the evil Count Olaf and his henchmen.
I was hooked from the book's very first page, with its reference to Robert Frost's "A Road Less Traveled". Mentioned in such a lovely fashion, the reader is enlightened from the get-go, tasting ideas of choice and individuality.
This tenth installment to the series, as per usual, is filled with sharp wit woven throughout what is perhaps Snicket's sharpest plot to date. With all that "sharpness" lying around, one might fear getting poked advancing through the text. Still, with so many twists, turns, surprises, shocks, questions and answers, smiles and stresses, around each and every page corner... I couldn't creep around its edges, rather, I launched myself around every turn, lapping up whatever Lemony Snicket had to dish.
Oh, and guess who pops up in this book? Can you guess? Huh? Can you? Well I'm certainly not going to tell you. But I assure you this; it's worth the read.
As is the case for the rest of the series, the language in this book does not make for the easiest youth read, but the plot motivates the reader to devour any challenging vocabulary.
It's simply charmingly intelligent (or intelligently charming? Hmm...)
