A Girl's Guide to Yoga (Ener-Chi Books)
Teenagers are faced with stress, too. They need to learn how to deal with stress. There are many different things that anyone can do to relieve stress. Yoga is one of them. This book is an excellent resource guide to how to start practicing yoga. The illustrations are clear and concise and the descriptions are both interesting and understandable.
I found this book intriguing. Jeanne Finestone doesn't just present yoga poses, she defines yoga and the different positions. She gives an interesting background to the history of yoga, what it means and what the different yoga terms mean. For example, I didn't realize that the word yoga came from an ancient Sanskrit word that means "union." Finestone goes on to explain that yoga is meant to unite the body, mind and spirit, so that the yogi (meaning the person practising yoga) can live life in harmony with the surrounding world.
Finestone writes as if she is talking to young girls. She explains how yoga can be beneficial to girls. Even though yoga is practised by both men and women, young and old, this book is written totally for young girls, with the intent of providing them with alternate forms of relaxation, especially at that most difficult time of the month.
