Ahoyty-Toyty is the story of a couple of dogs on a cruise with their owners, who become charmed by, and try to emulate, the captain's uppity dog. The uppity dog takes a liking to only one of the dogs, resulting in the two dog friends have "loyalty" issues. Eventually, loyalty to one's friend wins out, with a funny little denouement. The illustrations are vibrant, the text is silly in a way that sticks with you, and there are small details that appeal to the adult reader. I read the book to my five-year-old nephew, and he spent the evening "ahoyty-toytying" about.
