Buzzy's Big Bedtime Book

by Ursula Furi-Perry

This is a charming bedtime book, with Buzzy the reluctant little donkey as the star. The book is comprised of two parts: the first describes Buzzy's bath, the second Buzzy's bedtime preparations.

The Bathtime section is very cute and is sure to be a hit with toddlers and younger kids who are just learning about taking a bath on their own. Buzzy makes a funny joke when he fears that he will be sucked down the drain, and Buzzy's dad is doting as he gives little Buzzy his wash.

The Bedtime section is funny and light-hearted, with Buzzy asking for every possible distraction from his mom in order to avoid going to bed. First, he needs a drink, or his Teddy; then, he wants to hear another story or get antoher hug and kiss; finally, Buzzy is afraid of the dark and can't fall asleep. Buzzy's mom doesn't give in though and Buzzy finally falls asleep without fear.

This is a great book for toddlers and young kids who are learning about the process of bath time and bedtime.

Tips

Use the book as a teaching tool, applying it to your own toddler's bath and bedtime to illustrate learning about the process.

Pros

The illustrations are charming, and the writing is very simple. There's a lot of repetition in the language, which may make it easier for younger kids to "read" along.

Cons

Buzzy's reluctance to go to bed may give some children motivation to talk back at bedtime, although the book seems to deal with Buzzy's disobedience well.
