Chicken Soup for the Kid's Soul: 101 Stories of Courage, Hope and Laughter
A heartwarming collection of short stories written by adults, celebrities and kids, designed to inspire, encourage and challenge youngsters to make the most of their lives.
This lovely collection of stories follows the format of all of the books in the "Chicken Soup" series. Each chapter is organized by a theme and the essays contained within all relate to that idea. Love, friendship, family, attitude, choices, death and wisdom are among the many topics covered in this anthology.
With eight or more stories in each of the ten chapters, this is not an easy or quick read for young children. However, the messages and lessons contained are valuable and uplifting, and are important to share with your kids. While older children, about age ten and older, would be able to handle and enjoy reading these stories on their own, you may want to consider reading them aloud and discussing the lessons with younger children.
I have read several of the stories from the chapter entitled "On Attitude and Perspective" to my second and third grade students. It's important for kids to realize that they have tremendous power over themselves, their achievements, failures, and future. I think this book helps them understand that. They are in control of their own lives.
While there are many, many books in the "Chicken Soup" series, I think this one is, by far, one of the most delightful.
