Cinderella (as if you didn’t already know the story)

by Candice Cooper

What It’s About:
“Cinderella (As If You Didn’t Already Know the Story)” is a contemporary version of the long ago-written fairy tale. In this book you learn that Cinderella writes letters to her late mother, and that her mother’s nickname for Cinderella was “Cupcake.” And did you know that it was actually the stepsisters who invite her to the ball, or that her prince is a gifted dancer who loves Jell o? This book is a quick read and is peppered with black silhouette drawings that are whimsical and fun.

What Parents Need To Know:
There is nothing inappropriate in this book.

The Bottom Line:
This is a visually appealing book with its bright orange hardback cover and pink polka-dots. The word spacing is very roomy and most of the pages have an illustration or two to fill in some space. It’s an excellent book for new or hesitant readers, as it is not overwhelming when first thumbed through. It’s a nice choice for young readers.

The Scoop:
My six-year-old loved this book. We read aloud, taking turns reading the pages so she could practice her reading and participate. My 12 year-old read it very quickly (in about an hour) and said it was a fun book. Overall, I would say it’s a great selection for your child’s bookshelf.
