Crepes by Suzette

by Lisa Woodworth

The book is an enjoyable and educational scrapbook of Paris and as an added bonus children will like it.

I love, love, love this book! The story didn't wow me; it's very simple, though my 3-year-old daughter did quite enjoy it. What blew me away, and has me perusing it time and time again (even after my daughter goes to sleep), is the amazing artwork.

In Crepes by Suzette, we meet Suzette, a street vendor in Paris. She lets us tag along with her as she makes her daily rounds. A few of Suzette's stops include: The Notre Dame Cathedral, The Louvre, and The Eiffel Tower.

All of the scenes in this book are collages made up of actual pictures the author herself had taken during her visits to Paris. Along with the snapshots, the pages are riddled with souvenirs and other interesting little tidbits collected from France.

Suzette and her tasty crepes are popular in the streets of Paris; and we get to meet many hungry customers. You may recognize a few, for her customers are all based on people in famous paintings by either French artists, or artists that have lived and have worked in France. The final pages give a little information about these paintings.

There is also a glossary of French words used in the book, notes on the pictures and Suzette's delicious crepe recipe.

It is obvious to the reader that the author, Monica Wellington, has an intense passion for Paris. Through her book, she shares this love with readers, young and old.
