Crochet for Barbie Doll: 75 Delightful Creations to Crochet

by Lisa Woodworth

A beautiful book and with 75 patterns inside, a great value... but unless you are a really gutsy, patient beginner, leave this one for the more experienced.

This book would be a great one for those who crochet as a hobby. It has a huge variety of different and interesting styles of clothing and accessories for Barbie to wear; everything from a wonderfully comfortable looking bathrobe, elegant evening wear, it even has patterns for a couple of fabulous wedding dresses! (If the day ever comes that she and Ken finally decide to tie the knot!)

Being a novice at the art of crochet, I found the patterns, although very unique and beautiful, incredibly hard to perfect. Because the designs all call for fine yarns, I found it more difficult than I usually do to keep my tension the same throughout, spelling disaster for the finished piece. I really had to concentrate on the instructions as well, reading over them time and again; though I don't believe this to be a fault of the author, I'm sure someone more experienced would giggle at my observations after giving it a try for themselves.

All in all, I'd be a little skeptical to recommend this book to a beginner; it MAY encourage them to learn to crochet but it might just as easily scare them off as well. On the other hand, I am confident that a practised crocheter will enjoy creating these pieces and the lucky recipient of the end product will cherish them forever.
