Detective LaRue: Letters from the Investigation
Well known dog Ike LaRue was arrested yesterday in connection with the disappearance of two cats. The cats were apparently abducted from their Second Avenue apartment and LaRue was apprehended in nearby Gruber Park while attempting to bury a bag of cat treats...
Detective Ike LaRue is back from obedience school and collar-deep in trouble. In Mark Teague's latest book "Detective LaRue: Letters from the Investigation," the imaginative and loyal pet dog of Mrs. LaRue strives to solve two mysteries while being incarcerated and later escaping from jail.
The book consists of amusing newspaper headlines and typed or paw-written letters from Ike to his vacationing owner, Mrs. LaRue, describing his plights and adventures.
It seems two cats have gone missing and strangely enough, a rash of canary burglaries has erupted in the peaceful town of Snort City. Not to worry, though, Detective Ike LaRue is on the case.
This preschool to 3rd grade level book is amusing and well written with a unique illustration style which portrays both the real and imagined adventures of detective dog Ike LaRue. For example, in one letter to Mrs. LaRue, Ike is telling her that "The police continue to interrogate me about what happened to the Hibbens' cats". In reality, Ike is playing cards with an officer and winning.
"Detective LaRue: Letters from the Investigation" is one installment in a series of children's books penned by Mark Teague. It is an excellent choice for bedtime or quality time reading that the whole family will enjoy.
