Giggle-Wiggle Wake-Up
by Caroline Sand
This book, written by Nancy White Carlstrom, and illustrated by Melissa Sweet, has a lot going for it. The illustrations are colorful and fun, it is playful with language, and repetitive in a way that children like.
The problem is that the writing is awkward in a way that does not allow the reading of it to flow naturally. The inside flap of the book describes the writing style as "bouncy wordplay" which it is, but it just didn't work for me. Instead, I used the text as a guideline, and ad-libbed as I went along.
My 3 year old niece liked it and thought it was silly, but my 4 year old nephew was already a little too grown up for it.
