Growing Vegetable Soup has vibrant colorful pages with wall-to-wall graphics. The story is about the growing process for vegetable soup, from planting the seeds and sprouts to the end result, which is "the Best Soup Ever"!
The story takes you through the process of planting a garden including: digging the holes, making sure all the plants get lots of water and sun, and of course weeding the garden as well. Then comes the fun part, picking all the vegetables and making vegetable soup!
For those of us who aren't up to par with gardening terms, this book makes our inquisitive toddlers think they have all the answers! It tells us what everything is, what seed belongs to which plant, garden tool names, etc...
My children, aged 2 and 5, love this book!
Something they look forward to every year is making a garden with grandpa; they all make the garden together and help grandpa with the upkeep throughout the year. This book reminded them of this and it got them excited in advance about gardening and what they might plant in the garden this coming season. I think we're also going to have "the best soup ever" this year!!
The pages are made of hard cardboard so they can't be ripped out easily. If you have a very little one that is teething, however, this is not the sort of book to let them chew on. With a little bit of saliva and chewing, pieces of the cardboard come apart and come off.
