Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

by Jillian Gregory

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few years, you have undoubtedly heard about Harry Potter. The adventures of Harry Potter, written by J.K. Rowling, have invaded the world. Fantastic movies, toys, and games have developed from the books and for good reason. The Harry Potter books are wonderful!

In "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" we are introduced to Harry Potter, an 11-year-old boy in a desperate situation. He lives with his aunt, uncle and annoying cousin. His parents found a tragic end when Harry was just an infant. Harry was told his parents perished in a car crash, but as Harry grows up he realizes he has peculiar powers that none of his friends possess. For example, he can understand and talk to snakes.

One day his life changes dramatically when he receives a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry sets off on a magical adventure. He becomes fast friends with fellow students Ron and Hermoine. This series not only showcases imaginative concepts such as "Owl Post," but also deals with the same problems we face in our own everyday lives. The strength of friendship is tested, honesty is valued, and interesting Hogwarts characters are involved in each story.

"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" not only entertains young readers, but readers of all ages as well.
