How Baseball Works

by Roxy Kienzle

The book "How Baseball Works" covers all the bases -- not only the basics of the game, its players, and strategies; but also reveals fascinating stories, baseball facts and trivia, and even some amazing experiments that kids and parents can do together.

TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME! Even though I am not a baseball enthusiast, "How Baseball Works" gave me a new understanding about the passion and excitment of the game. My son who is in his first year of Little League enjoyed most of the components of this book, although some of the information is too advanced for him. I am sure he will appreciate it in the years to come. For those who know everything there is to know about baseball, you will be pleasantly surprised.

The spectacular action photos of "great moments in baseball" make this book instantly appealing. In addition, the illustrations are fun and in some cases more descriptive than words. Baseball legends are recognized throughout the book, along with their photos. Learn how to calculate a player's "stats" and what they mean, or how to maximize a team's "batting order". You can discover how baseballs are made, go back in time when you read about the history of the game, or how you can use "tricks of the trade" or "the science of baseball" to boost your skills. Many pages are devoted to the baseball uniform and equipment required, both for safety and effectiveness. Practice, physical training, and nutrition is emphasized to become a stronger athlete and to avoid injuries.

"How Baseball Works" is a soft-cover book suitable for Little Leagers and Pros alike. There is a "Contents" dividing the book into "Chapters" that include Titles (of articles). At the back of the book you will find "Rules and Regulations" with a diagram of the field demonstrating proper positioning of players, a Glossary called "Baseball Talk" which includes baseball terminology, and an Index for providing a quick reference guide.
