How I Became a Pirate
Average User Rating:
This is a great book for young children, especially for those who love stories about pirates.
"How I Became a Pirate" is a cute story about a young boy named Jeremy, who meets pirates at the beach, and ends up going on a wild adventure with his new pirate friends.
Jeremy joins Pirate Braid Beard and his crew to find the perfect place to bury their treasure. On his journey, Jeremy learns what it is like to be a pirate. He learns pirate songs, pirate manners and even pirate language!
Jeremy was really enjoyed being a pirate because no one tells pirates what to do (or what not to do). He wanted to be a pirate forever, that is, until he discovered some of the many things that pirates don't do, such as tuck children into bed, or read them stories, or kiss them goodnight. He realizes in the end that maybe he doesn't want to be a pirate after all. Jeremy's journey ends after he, well... maybe you should read the book and find out for yourself!
I have two sons ages 3 and 6 and they both loved this story, mostly because it was about pirates. They both thought that Jeremy was lucky to have gone on an adventure with the pirates. They also enjoyed the wonderful full-paged illustrations.
The story was simple to understand and the subject matter was attractive. Both my sons wanted me to re-read the story on numerous occasions. This book was a hit! As for myself, I really enjoyed the illustrations as they were funny and complimented the story very well.
