My lifelong fear of cauliflower came to a halt when my nephew refused to eat anything but. He'd only visit me if I served it. Although it made me sick, my husband pointed out, "It's better than sugar, why are you upset that he likes something that's good for him?"
So to you Ms. Funke, I thank you for providing a large book that is, in part, good for young readers. It's got hundreds of pages, lots of new adjectives to ponder, and unconventional scenarios. And anyone who goes for it will be getting their literary nutrition.
I would like to tell you that I'm hanging onto every word. Harry Potter doesn't have anything on you. But the only suspense I feel is the fear that this story will never end.
And I am afraid that this review contradicts the New York Times, something which no budding reviewer/writer should do, yet I must.
But as long as your child wants to eat vegetables, who are you to judge them?
