Jessica Takes Charge
This book is an exciting adventure with just the right amount of suspense and "comforting" for young readers.
Upon first receiving this book, I scanned its pages quickly before sitting down to read through it with my 3-year-old daughter. I really didn't expect it to be a hit until she got to be a little older as there seemed to be a lot of text on the pages and its illustrations were dark -- the story is set at nighttime. Often, I find that too much story per picture often makes for a distracted read, unless it is accompanied with larger than life, exciting images to hold the child's attention. I couldn't have been more wrong with this book! My daughter loved it, and still loves it after reading through it many, MANY times.
Jessica Takes Charge, is a story about a brave young girl who is convinced that there is a monster living somewhere in her house. She tells her mother and father since, "they'll know what to do". BUT, Mom and Dad are no help to Jessica on this one because they don't believe her!
Still, something needs to be done about this growling creature and Jessica sets out to catch it herself (yikes!) So, after her mommy and daddy fall asleep, Jessica's late night adventure begins.
This story captivated my daughter throughout and had her excited to get to every single next page where, hopefully, a monster would be found. Finally, and much to her satisfaction, the "monster" is revealed at the end of the story; and as you might expect, it wasn't what Jessica had expected!
This is a great read for anyone between the ages of about 3 and 8.
