Kids Can Sew
A great craft book that will give you the opportunity to spend time being creative with your child.
"Kids Can Sew" by Beverley Alvarez takes you on a wonderful step by step journey through the learning process of sewing. It is detailed enough for a child who has never threaded a needle and yet has neat projects for a young person who has sewn before. Beverly has a myriad of projects ranging from finger puppets and decorating belts to creating a hooded vest. These projects are wonderful for a child to create for their own use or to give as a gift.
She starts with the very basics of putting a sewing kit together. Each object she mentions for the kit is pictured along with a short detailed description of how it is used. Beverley also explains what different fabrics are and what they are best used for.
A chapter on customizing used clothing you already have and shows you how to turn old blue jeans into a creative skirt, making old new again.
Even without a sewing machine, there are several projects to sew by hand. The project description, along with a picture, tells and shows how different stitches are done.
The directions for every project are accompanied by pictures helping you to see the project as it progresses. Get your child away from the TV or computer for a while. Not only will they be creative but these creations will not sit on a shelf!
