Léo le Chat comes to play!
This is my daughter's first year of school. Since we speak very little French ourselves, we had mixed feelings as to whether we should enroll her into French immersion.
Being from Ottawa, the bilingual capital of Canada, our decision weighed in favor of it. We had to at least give it a try; and much to our surprise and delight, she is doing very well. When we saw this book we were very excited to read it.
Léo le chat comes to play, is about a cat on a skateboarding adventure. He doesn't always listen to what he's told. He doesn't speak English, so you, the reader, have to speak French words and phrases if you would like to play with him.
There are fun "lift-the-flaps" and a little mouse ready to help you communicate with Léo. The back of the book is my favorite part. There is a cool game on one page and then two full pages dedicated to pronunciation. A wonderful guide helps you to voice the French words, for example: Poisson = pwa-son = Fish, and Huit = weet = 8. This really came in handy seeing as I speak very little French.
The story and the language concept are what sold me on the book. I didn't much care for the illustrations; I found them to be reminiscent of "Ren and Stimpy". All in all though, I would rate this book a neuf = nerf = nine!
