It is both a heart-breaking and heart-warming story for an audience of 9 - 12 year-olds.
Nora and Sean, two children who both travel separately to America in order to stay with family already living there, tell the story. They take you through their difficult journeys with courage; and despite the horrors they faced, readers still can feel a sense hope for the future.
My daughter was shocked and mesmerized as we read this book together. She had many questions, which posed a great opportunity for teaching and discussions.
I highly recommend this book, as it offers depth, encourages compassion, and fosters admiration for those who have experienced and survived harsh circumstances.
Definitely two thumbs up!
