Melanie Martin Goes Dutch : The Private Diary of My Almost Bummer Summer with Cecily, Matt the Brat, and Vincent Van Go Go Go
Melanie, the protagonist reveals her experiences and resulting mixed feelings about her brother and best friend, during their summer vacation, as they all travel to Holland together, with her family. In doing so, Melanie struggles with sibling rivalry, jealousy towards her best friend and her growing awareness of other people's feelings.
Throughout the summer, Melanie reads the book of Anne Frank, given to her by her mother, and Melanie begins associating her learning to the world she lives in and develops a deeper sense of compassion to those around her.
The book is humorous, gentle with feelings and really holds the reader's attention. Any ten year-old-girl would love this book and anyone who has a ten-year-old girl in the family ought to read this book for insight into the hearts and minds of this age group!
Well Done!
