Moira's Birthday

by Lynn Miller

Moira wants to invite grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and kindergarten to her birthday party. Her parents tell her that is just too many children and she may only invite 6 guests. When Moira comes home from school the next day she's afraid to tell her parents all 6 grades and kindergarten are coming to her party.

The day of the party there are more than 200 children at Moira's house. Mom and Dad are shocked and don't have enough food or cake to feed everyone. Moira keeps reassuring her parents by telling them not to worry, she knows what to do. But does she? When Moira phones the pizzeria and orders dozens of pizzas, the pizza lady screams at her and tells Moira she's too busy to make so many pizzas. Moira phones the bakery and orders dozens of cakes, but again she is yelled at and the baker tells her he is too busy to make so many cakes. Then all of the children run off and later come back with all kinds of food to eat.

When the party is over Moira looks around and she has 200 presents and she thinks that is too many presents for anyone to have. Her parents look around at the mess the children have left. Once more Moira tells her parents not to worry, she knows what to do. She telephones all of the children and tells them that if they come over and help clean up the party mess they may each take a present home.

The children rush back to Moira's house, help clean up the mess and everyone is happy until...the pizza lady arrives with dozens of pizzas and the baker arrives with dozens of cakes. Moira's parents ask: "What are we going to do with all of this food?" Does Moira know what to do this time?

Pros

My 7-year-old grandson loved the different predicaments that Moira got herself into and then found solutions for. Now we ask each other, "What would Moira do?"
