Mother, May I

by Lisa Woodworth

In this story a thoughtful little girl plans to give mommy a break on her special day.

Sounds wonderful?

True, days off are rare, if at all existent, when raising little ones. But (and there is a BIG BUT) the 3 or 4-year-old girl in this story, who decides that mom's shoes need filling, makes all things a little crazy.

While the daughter's intentions are good, the mother cringes at every new thing her daughter is determined to do for her. The "day off", has mom looking as pooped as someone who just DELIVERED a child. Still, her daughter's "I love you" makes everything worthwhile.

The author, without question, meant for this to be a biography for a lot of moms out there. Many kids, boys and girls, will be able to relate to the little girl in this story. It's a sweet and hilariously familiar story, and the illustrations capture all of the chaos perfectly.

My daughter and her friends enjoy it, and I get a kick out of reading it too.
