Mother's Day
As I sit here on Mother's Day listening to my husband read this story to our daughter, my thoughts seem to wander from "I'm a lucky mommy" to "wow, I didn't think about how differently each family could celebrate Mother's Day!"
That is what this story is about: Not unlike every other day, Evelyn begins her morning by getting ready to go to school. However today is a little different, as she's going to learn about how different families celebrate the same holiday.
Everyone in her class brings a button to school in order to do a special craft, which is a part of the story. As each child shows off their buttons, they take turns telling the teacher what they are doing for their moms on Mother's Day. Some will go out for supper, while others will go so far as to plant a tree for their mom! All are wonderful, thoughtful ideas -- and, so is the special handmade gifts that the children make in class, which will surely make their mother's day.
As you can probably guess, I also received a special craft from my 5 year old daughter, who was delighted that the book was not only about Mother's Day, but also included her most favorite thing to do -- crafts!
