My Leafs Sweater
This book is about a boy that loves the Toronto Maple Leafs. He wants nothing more than to have a Leafs sweater, but instead gets a big surprise. He gets to go to a Leafs game. This not only was a memorable night for Michael but also for the rest of the world. Go back to 1976 and follow Michael from store to store in search of a Leafs sweater and end up with him at the Leafs record-breaking night.
My children are too young to truly appreciate moral and feelings behind this story. It is about a young boy, Michael, who loves the Toronto Maple Leafs and adores his hero, Darryl Sittler.
This story takes place back in 1970s when Darryl Sittler is captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Michael tells the reader of why he liked the Maple Leafs team and why even their name was special to him. He wanted nothing more than a Maple Leafs sweater for his birthday. His parents told him that he could get one if he was good and did his school work.
He was so excited and tried very hard to be good. When it came time to get the sweater he and his dad drove to the sports shop. They had a lot of sweaters but not one Maple Leafs sweater. They were sold out. They spent the whole day looking for a sweater with no luck. Then as they passed the hockey rink Michael saw that the Maple Leafs were playing that night. They got tickets and watched the game. This book goes into detail about the game and exciting things that happened there that night.
This is a fun book. I suggest it for everyone that likes hockey, but especially for young boys with a dream about hockey. I thought that this book was simply, but well illustrated.
