Oliver's Game

by Sabrina Zuccaro

The book is about a boy named Oliver who spends a lot of time at his grandfather's baseball store. One day he discovers an old Cubs uniform that, to the surprise of Oliver, belonged to his grandfather. The story then goes back to World War II, where we learn that Oliver's grandfather, was once a promising athlete who was asked to practice with the Chicago Cubs!

With the war at hand however, the promising athlete signed up for the Marines so that he could defend his country. In the war, Oliver's grandfather was wounded and his dreams of being a pro ball player faded.

My children really liked this story because they are baseball fans. The account of Oliver's grandfather's life captivated them. The illustrations are incredible and they compliment the story nicely. The soft watercolors help set the mood of the story.

This book is great for children ages 6-11, and will surely grab the hearts of baseball fans everywhere.
