One Night in Doom House (Mostly Ghostly)
Ghost siblings Nicky and Tara, feel they are getting closer to solving both the mystery of their missing parents and how they wound up child apparitions. Max, a boy that is able to see and hear Nicky and Tara, is willing to do anything to help his ghost friends -- but at what cost?
Once again R.L. Stine manages to entertain readers with his latest installment of the "Mostly Ghostly" series entitled "One Night in Doom House."
As soon as brother and sister, Nicky and Tara, realized they were ghosts, they rushed home to find their parents gone and a new family living in their house. Now they wander the earthly realm invisible to all but their new friend Max. Their only goal: to locate their parents.
R.L. Stine transforms the old cliche ghost story into a new generation thriller in "One Night In Doom House." Although the main theme revolves around ghosts, both good and evil, Stine manages to pepper the story with plenty of situations that young readers can relate to in their own lives. Such things as school projects, bullies, mean-spirited siblings, and crushes lend realism and, at times, hilarity to an otherwise 'tired' storyline.
Written for the 7 to 11 year-old age group, "One Night In Doom House" has a few red flags that should be considered. Max's older brother is very mean, parental involvement is lacking, and the melting of a pet rabbit is more than just a bit disturbing. Take these factors into consideration when deciding whether or not your child should read this book.
