Staying Dry : 99 Tips to Bring You Back from the End of Your Rope (Last Straw Strategies)
This book is for those who are just breaking through on the potty training frontier and for those who have gotten lost in the forest of frustration!! "Staying Dry" is basically a "how to get through it" reference for parents trying to get through the woes of potty training. The book breaks each point of training down into small chapters, making it easy to search and find information applicable to your situation. Parents can find tips on how to identify when their toddler might be ready to begin the potty training adventure. You will also find suggestions on how to keep everyone going in the right direction. I think parents need just as much encouragement as the little ones. Since my son and I have just started out with the whole process of potty training this book allowed me to take an overall look at what is happening and what is to come. I gained some insight on how to find the right time to train, when to encourage, when to stop obessing about it, and how to remain sane through it all.
The breakdown throughout the book allowed me to pick out what I wanted to read, such as the "Travel Potties", "Putting Your Child In Charge", and "Messy Starts". It is all light reading for a deep subject and I enjoyed being able to thumb through the pages and find information to guide me each step of the way. There were a couple of things that I would choose to do differently, but that is all part of process... picking out what works for each child.
I would suggest this book for every parent before, during, and after the whole potty training experience. Even after potty training is done, there are always some accidents. You can find information on bedwetting in the last couple of chapters. The book covers it all!
