Stick Kid
Let me begin by saying that my 3 year old loved Stick Kid right from the start and asks us to read it 2 or 3 times before he goes to bed.
The story begins with the drawing of a little stick Kid. Soon he begins to grow and change and is drawn some news clothes and new friends. Eventually the Little Stick Kid grows up to be a Stick man with a Stick wife and Stick kid of his own.
I really like the illustrations which are simple and completely fit with the story. They are drawn in a way to bring the reader into the Stick world.
The narration is also playful and very catchy. "I once drew a stick kid, a quick little stick kid". My son enjoys pointing out the different things that the Stick kid is going through (growing and changing) and in the end he loves to remind me that the Stick Kid from the start of the story has completely changed into a Stick man.
For adults it's a simple story about parenting and preparing for the day when eventually we'll need to say goodbye to the little children we knew and say hello to the adults they have become. For children the story teaches the concept of growing up from their point of view (clothes don't fit anymore, eventually they prefer to play with friends instead of parents).
The magic of this book is how much kids enjoy it while at the same time it warms the hearts of their parents.
