Sunshine On My Shoulders

by Amber Johns

Though I enjoy the song, "Sunshine on My Shoulders" that was written by the late John Denver, I think I might love this children's book even more. The words dance across beautifully illustrated pages as each turn of the page represents a stanza of Denver's famous song. The choreography of the words and pictures make for a fast moving book for those little ones with short attention spans. Each turn of the page is warm and inviting as sunshine and sunflowers give the lyrics of the song a little more meaning to those reading them. You may have trouble just reading the words, you may wind up singing them after you listen to the CD that comes with the purchase of the book. A musical score is included to aid in singing the song, which opens an opportunity to expose children to the art of music. This book has it all.

Denver's biography is written at the end of the book allowing you and your children to meet the author of such a sweet song. His picture is portrayed on the last page, which adds a personal connection.

There is no way not to enjoy the choreography and chemistry that erupts as words and illustrations come together to put a little sunshine into your day.
