Ten Little Fish

by Jenna Bayley-Burke

This vibrant counting story of a school of ten little fish goes full-circle, beginning and ending with ten brightly colored fish. With each turn of the page one Nemo-like fish gets drawn away by diving, napping, hiding, snacking and more from until just one little fish remains. Happily this fish finds a friend, and together these two fish create another ten little fish.

Bruce Wood's digitally created illustrations are slick. Finding Nemo fans will enjoy the fish and the underwater landscapes as they make their way through the countdown. Older kids like the playfulness of the 3D-like pictures, especially when one of the fish gets stuck in a bottle.

The rhyme and repetition of Ten Little Fish encourages little ones to count along with the story, anticipating each number on the countdown. Kids accustomed to this format are able to jump right in. The colorful fish lend themselves to teaching colors as well as counting.
