The Baby Owner's Maintenance Log: A Record Of Your Model's First Year

by Lisa Woodworth

This is the perfect baby record book for dads. Set up like a new car manual, in which it refers to the new baby as 'the model', and doctors as 'service providers', it's both funny and trendy and won't scare off new dads by being too 'cute'.

This book provides plenty of journaling space to record weekly milestones, thoughts or whatever else you'll want to remember. It also serves as a baby's first year reference book as it is full of information on everything from feeding/consumption, sleep patterns/sleep mode, speech/pre-programmed ability to speak your language and more.

As well, at each 3-month interval there is a detailed 'maintenance checklist' in which you record your baby/models overall 'performance.' What this book doesn't offer, something that you'll either love or hate, is places for pictures, clippings from the first haircut, and all of the other cute things that many other baby record books prompt you to provide. In my experience, without these guidances, more than likely I would not have filled in much of the things that fill my daughter's baby book, things that we cherish every time we pull the book out.

Overall though, I think that many people will enjoy this book. It's a quirky spin on what is already out there. My only suggestion is that if you are buying this as a gift, make sure you know who it is that you are planning to give it to and what their tastes are, otherwise, it may go unused.

Tips

If buying this as a gift, don't assume this is a book for everyone, know its intended receiver.

Pros

Different from other baby record books out there. Trendy, funny and informative at the same time.

Cons

Some people may be disappointed that this is more of a journal than a scrapbook in which you can also put pictures, hair clippings, etc.
