The English Roses

by Rhea V. Ewer

It's been said that the grass is always greener on the other side. That might leave some "green with envy" as is the case of the four girls in this story: Nicole, Amy, Charlotte and Grace, who are quite jealous of a neighborhood girl their age, named Binah.

True, Binah is smart and pretty and all other things lovely. In truth she is as lovely on the inside as she is out. The four girls, envious of Binah's enviable traits, never take the time to get to know her on the inside, because their jealousies prevent them from doing so. It is only through a common dream that they four share, whereby a fairy godmother shows them the deeper truths of Binah's life that their attitude begins to change.

Through the foursomes' realization of the daily hardships that Binah endures, their jealousies fall by the wayside. Only then do they begin to understand the time they have all wasted being jealous, instead of being friends.

Excellent illustrations.

And reading in Madonna's voice, is a treat.
