The Enormous Mister Schmupsle: An ABC Adventure

by Audrey DeZwirek

This is a wonderful story about Isaac and Trixie, two children trying to learn their alphabet, who end up learning it in a very different and adventurous way!!

This hardcover book tells of the misadventures of Isaac and Trixie, two young children left to learn their alphabet in their Aunt and Uncle's home. When a visitor rings the doorbell asking them to help watch his non-stop-eating cat Mr. Schmupsle, the children and their plans to learn the alphabet in a traditional (shall we say, calm, school-book way) are thrown out the window!

Mr. Schmupsle leads Isaac and Trixie on an adventure as he eats his way through house and town. Isaac and Trixie in turn must keep their promise to watch the cat, while at the same time studying their alphabet. In the end, they learn their alphabet in a most imaginative way, as they run through the town trying to catch up with Mr. Schmupsle.

The three finally crash into the local hospital leaving everyone reeling as they find out something they did not know about the fatter than fat, fat cat!

This book is great! Adults and children will love the bright pictures and imaginative story. Learning the alphabet is presented in a fun way, which will encourage kids to follow in Isaac and Trixie's path. Before long, your own children will be creating their own story and coming up with words as they learn the alphabet along with Isaac and Trixie.

Its silly storyline will have children laughing out loud as they watch Mr. Schmupsle eating everything but the kitchen sink!

Tips

I love to read this book to my son using various voices and sound effects. This gives the book that much more life and really excites him about learning his alphabet (or at least coming up with words that start with the letters of the alphabet).

Pros

- imaginative story will get children excited about learning the alphabet - bright, fun pictures will have children wanting to hear and see each and every page - hardcover makes it durable and great for young children who tend to be somewhat rougher with their things
