The Grim Grotto (A Series of Unfortunate Events, Book 11)
This is the eleventh book in the "Series of Unfortunate Events" tales. The story follows the three Baudelaire orphans and the troubles they encounter after their parents are killed in a fire.
In this particular portion of the story the Baudelaire orphans find themselves bobbing down a chilly "Stricken Stream" on a toboggan. They have just rescued the youngest Baudelaire, Sunny, from the clutches of Count Olaf with the help of their friend Quigley Quagmire.
Unfortunately Quigley has been carried away, down another tributary of the stream. Before long they are rescued by a submarine, The QueeQueg. It's crew consists of, Captain Widdershins, his stepdaughter Fiona and their long lost friend, Phil. Together they continue down stream in search of a sugar bowl that holds some mysterious power. From studying maps and tidal charts, they pick the Gorgonian Grotto as the most likely resting place of the sugar bowl, but it is also the home of the dreaded Medusoid Mycelium(a very poisonous mushroom).
When the children reach the Gorgonian Grotto(the grotto is too small for an adult)the sugar bowl is nowhere to be found but the Medusoid Mycelium is popping up everywhere, trapping the children in an air pocket for some time. When they finally get back to the submarine they find it deserted and make the grim discovery that Sunny has come in contact with the poisonous mushroom and is very sick. To make things even more unfortunate, Count Olaf has found them! Will they find an antidote for Sunny in time? Will they escape the villianous grasp of Count Olaf once more?
