The Mystery of Mr. Nice: A Chet Gecko Mystery
Chet is an elementary student who's not so interested in his studies but is interested in art work and solving mysteries. His mockingbird partner, Natalie Attired is usually right nearby.
In this episode, "The Mystery of Mr. Nice," Chet is sent to the principal for his infamous art work only to discover something is odd. Instead of being in trouble as usual, he's let off the hook. This is odd for Principal Zero, thus leading Chet to believe that something is wrong. The investigations begin. As things progress, they discover more and more things wrong with the school and its staff. They need to solve the mystery before the PTA meeting in order to save both Principal Zero and the school from doom.
This book was fun to read in typical mystery style full of puns and similies, wisecracks and bad jokes. The plot was easy to follow, the characters likeable and the story interesting. The reading level is for children ages 8-12 and some of the vocabulary reinforced that as it was a bit above my 5 year old and I had to explain a few things to him as we read.
There are 18 chapters. We took our time and it took us 3 days to read. This kept their interest and they looked forward to finding out what happened next. If your children like mysteries and this story in particular, there are more available. You can even check Chet out as well as more on the author on the internet at www.brucehale.com
