The Vile Village (A Series of Unfortunate Events, Book 7)
Book the Seventh in Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfotunate Events. The Baudelaire orphans have a whole village as a guardian this time. It doesn't seem to be better than a regular set of guardians.
The Baudelair orphans are once again looking for a place to live. The banker in charge of their welfare is having a hard time finding someone who will take them in. Almost everyone has heard of the problems the children have had with Count Olaf (the villain in the story).
The narrator (Lemony Snicket) once again does a good job of letting readers new to the series feel as if they know what has happened before. However, his explanations of things and events sometimes slow up the action in the book.
The orphans are sent to live in V.F.D. because the banker has decided that it takes a village to raise a child (or children). Upon their arrival in the village, the children learn that it is not what they thought it would be. They are shipped off to live with the caretaker, and must do all the chores of the town each day while being careful not to break any of the multiple rules of the town.
They receive poems/clues each day from their friends the Quagmire triplets (who were kidnapped by Count Olaf). While they do their chores, they try to figure out what happened to their friends, and what the clues could mean. Count Olaf shows up in disguise again, and as usual, nobody believes that he is Count Olaf.
At the end of the story, the three Bauselairs are growing up a little, and they need another new place to live.
