Wallace's Lists

by Stephanie Ruble

This is an opposites attract friendship story featuring Wallace the mouse and his new neighbor Albert. Wallace is the kind of mouse who lives his life by following the lists he makes. Albert is the kind of mouse who likes adventure, and probably couldn't follow a list if he tried.

Many of the lists are shown, and some are funny while still being possible things that kids might list. Wallace follows his lists for about half of the book, until he gets drawn into Albert's world. Kids will probably be able to anticipate what's going to happen to Wallace.

The book has a classic set up where the shy mouse has to have an adventure (whether he wants to or not) to save his friend. Of course Wallace ends up liking his adventure. He also finds out he likes having a friend.

The illustrations don't have a second story line, but they do a good job explaining the text. And they are full of fun details for children to look at (the nightmare drawing is my favorite).

This would be a good book for children who are a little set in their ways, and worried about what will happen if they change their routine.
