Walter the Farting Dog: Trouble at the Yard Sale
All of the neighbors have been avoiding one family's yard sale, where Walter the farting dog has been sitting (and sleeping) all day.
Father is very surprised, and certainly less than thrilled, that is, until a man came up to the sale and asked how much father was asking in exchange for the family dog. To Walter's surprise the dad said ten dollars, and the deal was made.
Walter was sad, as he felt that he was part of the family, and therefore not-for-sale! To make matters worse, the new owner (a clown no less), intended to use Walter's "special talent", in order to rob a bank. The story goes on from there, and is certainly worth the read.
In the opening pages, I thought the book was a little weird -- I mean really, a story about a farting dog! However, after reading it a few times I began to really appreciate the lessons it teaches children. Firstly, it teaches not to judge someone based on his or her habits (smelly ones included). Family members should be loved and respected unconditionally.
Secondly, it teaches children that money isn't everything; how can one sell a family member?
A final note worth mentioning -- the illustrations were bright, colorful and realistic.
