Wild About Books
"Wild About Books" is a colorful, funny and all-around wonderful children's story about the world of books. It begins with the day Molly McGrew, bookmobile librarian, takes her bookmobile to the local zoo. As the animals' interest in books grows, they begin writing their own stories and later build their own library.
This is an excellent book for children just learning about reading, especially as it blends the rhyming style of Dr. Seuss with a popular subject for children - zoo animals. It is interesting to note that the book is actually dedicated to Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Giesel.
Marc Brown (author illustrator of the "Arthur" series) painted the illustrations for "Wild About Books." The colorful two-page spreads are excellent for holding up while reading to multiple children. My two and four-year-old boys were entranced, and talked about the silly situations depicted both in the pictures and in the story.
Bestselling author Judy Sierra (author of "Antarctic Antics") does an excellent job of telling the story through rhyme. The story is a good length, taking only a few minutes to read, but moves at an even pace and describes plenty of activity as the animals' love of books grows.
This book is a must for any children's library or for any home where children's literature is treasured. In addition to being a great book for little ones, it celebrates the joy of reading and specifically mentions some of the greatest titles and authors in literature.
