Working Like a Dog : The Story of Working Dogs through History

by Shirley Nowicki

For any child who loves animals and especially for those who enjoy the companionship of a family pooch, this book is a must. Working Like a Dog informs, educates, entices and instills pride in our canine friends. This non-fiction book discusses the role of dogs throughout history and offers stories about true places and events. My daughter (age 8) eagerly picked up this book to read on her own but was also thrilled to share this book together.

I believe the level of reading in this book is between the ages of 9 and 12. The length of chapters is easily manageable, information is well organized and nicely laid out. As well, illustrations accompany almost every second page. Nicely done!
