High School Musical Soundtrack (Various Artists, Oct. 10, 2006)
If you haven't heard these about this squeaky-clean movie and CD, you're missing out. The music wavers between light dance and show tunes, and the lyrics offer clear messages about cliques and peer pressure. Standouts include We're All in This Together and What I've Been Looking For. If you think "they don't make 'em like that anymore," then it's time to check out this CD.
Hannah Montana Soundtrack (Hannah Montana, Various Artists, Oct. 24, 2006)
This Disney Channel sensation is the hot name among tweens this year. She's been called the new Hilary Duff, but fans know she's really 14-year-old Miley Cyrus (daughter of Nashville star Billy Ray Cyrus, also on the show). The rockin' Best of Both Worlds, Who Said, and Just Like You are pure happy music. Additional tracks include B5's Earth Wind & Fire redo Shining Star and Jesse McCartney's She's No You.
The High Road (Jo Jo, Oct. 17, 2006)
This sophomore CD from the teen pop princess is powerful, emotional, and inspirational. How's that for a combo? The title cut is a super life-lesson - take The High Road instead of getting revenge. Other highlights are the raw Coming For You, uplifting Exceptional, and addictive Good Ol'.
Right Where You Want Me (Jesse McCartney, Sept. 9, 2006)
This follow-up to 2004's Beautiful Soul reaffirms that the 19-year-old can really sing. It's a little more grown-up, with tunes that go beyond the nice-guy image that made McCartney a teen idol: Can't Let You Go, Right Where You Want Me, and Feelin' You. Part Michael Jackson, part Adam Levine, this CD ramps it up for a more sophisticated crowd.
