Further Adventures Of Ma And Pa Kettle
By Jane Louise BoursawMPAA Rating: Not Rated
Okay, raising a brood of 15 kids in a ramshackle house doesn't SOUND all that romantic. Then again, it must be true love that holds the Kettle family together, because it sure isn't money! When Pa enters a slogan-writing contest for a tobacco company, he ends up winning the grand prize -- a modern home with lots of newfangled contraptions that leave him feeling like a fish out of water. When jealous neighbors accuse Pa of plagiarizing his winning slogan, the sheriff shows up to evict the Kettles, but Ma stands her ground with a shotgun! Elder son Tom, home from college, becomes romantically entangled with a hoity-toity reporter who's doing a research paper on the plight of poor families. Wacky? Yes. Fun? Yes! This is gentle humor, a bit of slapstick, and a nice departure from the short-attention-span nature of most family movies these days. There's nothing objectionable for little ones here, but this movie probably won't hold the attention of preschoolers. 76 min. 1949.
