Man Bite Dog Card Game

by Laurie Johns

This is a fun newspaper headline game for kids ages 8 and up with 2-6 players. Each card has a point value and the object is to be the first player to reach 500 points.

Play and set up is simple. All that's needed are the cards, a pen and paper. Each card has a point value and an exclusive card doubles the value of a hand. The dealer deals 5 cards to each player. Each person looks at their cards and can discard up to 3. The player to the dealer's left goes first. Then the dealer starts putting down cards to make the best headline (they can be silly, unbelieveable, etc. but must be structurally sound). If a player can't make one they get a (0) for that round. Exclusive cards double the value of the hand. Only 1 exclusive card can be played per hand. Once done all scores are added and rounds continue until someone reaches 500 points.

This is a good game in educational value, critical thinking, strategy, building reading skills, adding skills, and turn taking. We had to play a few times for the kids to get the hang of it. This is a good game for older kids definetly over 8 and better with more players. This can be used at home, when travelling and at school. I really liked this game and will use it at school and home.
