What It’s About:
Hip Hop For Kids Pop! Lock! and Break! introduces you to old-school hip hop as well as the hottest new moves! Break and shake with the hip hop master himself, Roger G. This DVD includes a CD of the dance soundtrack and the dance song “The Harlem Shake” to play at your next party or at home with your friends.
What Parents Need to Know:
Hip Hop For Kids contains no profanity, sexual situations, violence, or drug/alcohol abuse/use.
The Bottom Line:
Hip Hop For Kids is a dance instruction/exercise video that is set up in six chapters. There is a bonus features section, and a play all option for each chapter. Led by Roger G and his dance students, kids are shown the moves repeatedly and through slow motion at different times, making is so easy for the youngest child brand new to hip hop. In the “My Style” section, the students take turns, leading with their strongest dance moves. They are clear and concise and fun to watch. A nice feature is the section on nutrition. The viewer is encouraged to drink plenty of water before and after a workout as well as calcium, fiber, and good carbs. The very best thing in the video, in my opinion, is that the kids are told to eat at the table with their family and not in front of the TV.
The Scoop:
My family wasn’t particularly drawn to this DVD. My nephews tried a few of the steps, but gave up quickly. However, for the child with interest in hip hop this would be THE video to have. It takes the basic of hip hop moves in various styles and teaches the root moves, allowing your child the foundation she needs to build up from there with her own moves.
