Once Upon a Potty (for Him)

A video for parents and children to watch together while learning how to potty train.
This video provides a fun way to learn all about potty training for boys. More specifically, an animated boy's trials and tribulations are followed while learning how to make "wee-wee" and "poo poo" in the potty. Basically children learn what a potty is for, and how they can go about learning to use it.
Actual children are depicted having fun while discovering their new potties. They are seen laughing and dancing around their potties while singing/listening to "The Potty Song." This is a catchy song that encourages kids while they learn. In fact a printed version of the words are included with the video.
The second half of the video contains a "Parent's Guide" featuring Dr. Leo Kron (Director of Child Psychiatry at St. Luke's/Roosevelt Hospital Center, NY). This portion of the video is meant for parents to watch alone. Dr. Kron offers some useful tips such as "girls train faster than boys" and "age readiness to start training varies per child." While this section is directed to adults, the cartoon background and constant cartoon flashbacks to the video made me feel like I was being spoken to like a child. That aside, this section did provide useful information.
While the technology used to produce this film is obviously dated, the message and educational techniques hold true. This video is a great way to teach children that potty training is an exciting process and an important part of growing up.
