Potty Power

By Erin Mariasine

MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)

This video will definitely motivate both boys and girls to potty train.

"Potty Power" is a fun, upbeat and entertaining video. The friendly host named Jessica, along with her animated toilet paper roll as well as toddlers, guide viewers on the step-by-step process for successful toilet training. For example: sitting on the potty, what can we do to keep ourselves busy when on the potty, using toilet paper, flushing the toilet and washing one's hands.

The video is specifically geared toward toddlers as they learn through singing and modelling the appropriate behavior. They also learn from watching children their own age successfully using the potty. I enjoyed the video, as the messages for the young viewers are both encouraging and motivating. The host is constantly praising the children and saying "You'll be proud to be a big kid."

I would show this video to my preschool class as it teaches children in a fun way.

Tips

Watch the video with your toddler and praise what the children are doing on the show. For example, "Hooray they just made a poo in the potty, would you like to try?" Furthermore, one can ask the children questions such as, "what color potty would you like?", "what kind of big kid underwear should we buy?" etc... Include your toddler in the decision making process as this will help them.

Pros

The video encourages potty training through songs and games. Each step is accompanied by a song. For instance, "what can I do when I'm sitting on a potty; wipe your bottom; wash the germs away, no more diapers for me etc..." Furthermore, the theme song named "Potty Power" is very motivational. Repeated viewing will allow the message to sink in.
