Strawberry Shortcake - Adventures on Ice Cream Island

Strawberry Shortcake and her friends have adventures with Honey Pie Pony and the Fillies on Ice Cream Island.

There are 2 main stories on the DVD, as well as extra features (my favorite is the music video: Tell Me A Story). The images are colorful, and the traditional animation is very good, and lots of fun.

The first story "Horse Of A Different Color" introduces us to Ice Cream Island. It also shows a lot of Strawberry Land and where all the characters live. Honey Pie Pony feels left out of all the fun that the kids are having, and feels like she doesn't belong in Strawberry Land. She tells them about Ice Cream Island (where the fillies live) and so they all go to visit.

It teaches lessons about friendship and how you can look different and still be friends. It features a multi-cultural, multi-gender, and multi-creature cast. However, the bee (Honey Doodle) drops out of the story when they go to Ice Cream Island.

In the second story "The Festival Of The Fillies," three of the horses from Ice Cream Island become friends with the girls (the boy and the bee are both absent from this story). They all try to help rescue Honey Pie Pony (and a few other fillies) from a horsenapper.

The lesson in this episode is: if we stick together, everything will be all right.

Although I was too old for Strawberry Shortcake the first time, I could see how people who liked it when they were kids would want to share it with their children now.

Tips

The DVD and case smell like strawberries.

Pros

The animation is great.

I also really liked the last song in The Festival Of The Fillies, and the music video and song for Tell Me A Story.

Cons

The lessons could be a little more subtle.
